It’s amazing the kind of things that will change in a year – and I think I subconsciously chose this outfit for a reason (photographed by my lovely friend Nuzhah from The Ramp Store/The Rampage Blog, shot on Middle Campus at UCT).

If you’ve stuck around on this blog for long enough, you’ll notice that I wore basically this exact outfit almost exactly a year ago, and I find it odd that it’s this particular outfit I chose to shoot in on that day with Nuzhah. In that post, I was talking about how growing older feels weird and sometimes I just want to be a kid again, feeling carefree with no worries – and as much as that still rings true, I’m really loving being a ‘grown up’ at university.

I had so many fears and anxiety coming to a new city to start afresh, and to say that they were in vain is an understatement. I made friends, I’m doing pretty well in my courses (we do not speak of ecos on this blog) and first year spread has yet to hit me (and it won’t, I refuse!).

Posting this today is also a bit strange because it’s the one year anniversary of my surgery, and seeing all the great things that have happened in the past year have really left me in awe and feeling so blessed. The people I got to work with, the events I went to, the matric marks I received, and even more recently, the friends I’ve made – who knew this is where I’d be a year ago? The worries don’t seem worth it at all.

This post may seem to be just an introspection/reflection, but I guess the point I’m trying to make is that you never know how things will work out. Godly intervention, coincidence, chance, serendipity – whatever you want to call it – they work in mysterious ways. So if you’re going through a tough spot, hold on, because who knows where you’ll be a year from now. In my case – I just gotta remember that it’s only one ecos test ? for others, it’s just matric, just a break up, just mourning – and I say ‘just’ because life is so much more than that, and it’s often hard to see it. But it’s there, and it keeps going, so you might as well go with it ?

Loving the retro double-denim + the short braids! And it’s very true, God works in ways too mysterious and great for us to imagine or comprehend. Cheers to good health and not so bad ecos tests 😉
